Western Tidewater Radio Association
Minutes for meeting January 14, 2008
 
1.  On Monday, January 14, 2008, the Western Tidewater Radio Association convened for an annual business meeting at the Smithfield Villas Club House in Smithfield.

2.  At 6:56 PM, Chris, N4KIT called the meeting to order and gave the floor to Ron, W4RRH who asked the blessing over the meal.

3.  At 7:45 PM, the business portion of the meeting was call to order by Chris, N4KIT who opened with a welcome and thanks to those who helped with the meal and to Ron, W4RRH for tonight’s meeting place.
 
4.  Attendees introduced themselves around the table; 15 members and 7 guests were present.

5.  Announcements:  Fred, KG4BKI announced the upcoming Frostfest on February 2nd; Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach this March; and the Bronco Club on June 8th.
 
6.  Secretary's Report:  The minutes of the November 12, 2007 meeting were posted on the club website at  www.wt4ra.org/minutes.html and distributed to the membership via email; motion by Dick, W4RBH to accept the minutes as published was seconded by Jim, W4PRO, and it carried.
 
7.  Repeater Committee Report:  Dick, W4RBH discussed the noise problem caused by rain water getting into the feed line.
 
8.  Treasurer's Report:  Dick, W4RBH gave a report on the club’s treasury and a membership of 53 members; motion by Jim, W4PRO to accept the treasurer’s report was seconded by Ken, N4IVP, and it carried.
 
9.  VE Team Report:  Chris, N4KIT presented a report on the VE exam sessions.

10. Newsletter Report:  Ron, W4RRH reported on the newsletter.

11. Old Business:  Field Day committee chairman is needed; Fred, KG4BKI encourages participation in Field Day.

12. New Business:  Dick, W4RBH presented the proposed budget for the year 2008; motion by Fred, KG4BKI was seconded by Mike, KI4KZQ, and it carried; the slate of officers for year 2008 were nominated as follows:
·    Chris Peters, N4KIT – President;                      ·Jim Wise, W4PRO – Vice-president;
·    Dick Harrell, W4RBH – Treasurer;                    ·Lyle Hornbaker, KI4WKT – Secretary;
·    Jarvis Hearn, W4VWH – 2nd Vice-president;   and these officers were elected by acclamation;
     Jim, W4PRO presented the 2008 “Ham of the Year” award to Fred Weaver, KG4BKI.

13. At 8:14 PM, motion by Ken, N4IVP to adjourn was seconded by Mike, KI4UNP, and the meeting was adjourned.

14. Program:  Richard Maylott, W2YE, manager of the Sterling Park QSL Bureau drove here from the D.C. area and gave an excellent 30-minute presentation on the two-letter prefix QSL bureau for the fourth call area; ‘his talk covered the organization of the ARRL Incoming QSL Bureau and what one should do in order to make use of it to receive QSL cards from DX stations.’
